Caoimhin Kelleher has admitted that he dreams of playing at Anfield for the Liverpool first-team.
Liverpool goalkeeper Kelleher told the Liverpool FC magazine (via the club’s official website) that he gets goosebumps when he hears ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ ring out at Anfield.
Kelleher recently made his first-team debut for Liverpool, playing the full 90 minutes against MK Dons in the EFL Cup. This was at Stadium:MK and the 20-year-old kept a clean sheet.
He is a highly-rated young player and Jurgen Klopp felt it was the right time to give him a chance. The Republic of Ireland U21 starlet is now hoping to get a game at Anfield at some point in the future.
Kelleher dreams of Anfield debut
Kelleher said (via liverpoolfc.com): “Of course, it would be nice to play at Anfield for the first time for the senior team. I’ve been on the bench at Anfield and I get goosebumps when the fans sing You’ll Never Walk Alone before the game, it’s an amazing atmosphere there.
“So it would be a lovely moment, but I’m not thinking about that. I’m just taking it as it comes. I’m not expecting anything, I’m just going to train as best I can and if I’m selected I’ll be ready.”
Kelleher has the potential to become Liverpool’s first-choice goalkeeper one day. But with Alisson returning soon, it is unlikely that Kelleher will get his Anfield debut in the coming weeks.
Alisson will probably take the number one spot again with Adrian getting games in the cup competitions. This pushes Kelleher back down the pecking order but he just needs to be prepared. You never know when the chance will come.
