Valencia have officially confirmed the signing of Manchester City centre-back Eliaquim Mangala on a two-year deal.
The move marks the centre-back’s return to the La Liga club, where he spent a spell on loan in 2016. The switch also brings an end to Mangala’s five year association with Manchester City. The 28-year-old first arrived at the Etihad Stadium from Porto in 2014. However, following his £32 million move to the Premier League, the Frenchman failed to live up to his price tag.
After an impressive debut against Chelsea, Mangala’s form quickly disintegrated. After two poor seasons in the north of England, Mangala was dispatched to spend the 2016/17 campaign on loan with Valencia. His form improved in Spain. However, when he return to England for the 2017/18 season, his confidence deserted him again. Mangala made nine further appearances for City before spending a short, disappointing loan stint with Everton.
He made just two league appearances for the Toffees and hasn’t played senior first team football in England since. Mangala will be desperate to revive his career with Valencia. He certainly had no future in Pep Guardiola’s plans.
Following the news of Mangala’s exit, plenty of Manchester City fans took to Twitter to share their views on the development.
This is a shame.
But they’ll get used to it.

Mangala gone, will go down as a cult hero, never once complained, and we will always have that debut against Chelsea, when he didn’t let Costa have a kick! 👍

Remember his first game for city against Chelsea and he was class and then boom next game conceded a pen and scored an own goal and it all went downhill from there
