‘Good point’: Leeds United chairman Andrea Radrizzani seems ready for eventual Championship finish

Leeds United are on the cusp of promotion to the Premier League.

Leeds United’s fears of not being promoted appear to be getting closer and closer to being realised by the precedent being set in other Football Associations around Europe’s response to the global health crisis.

Following on from Belgium and the Netherlands, France has now declared Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 cancelled for the rest of the season. In the former two Benelux nations, the seasons have been declared null and void, leaving promotion hopes in tatters.

No decision has been made regarding promotion in France, but the fear is the likes of Lens and Lorient might be left in the second-tier.

The situation in Spain is also looking doubtful, with many suggesting there is no way a finish to the season can be competitively achieved.

Leeds United will undoubtedly understand that the health of the general public, as well as their own staff, playing and non-playing, is paramount.

But club chairman Andrea Radrizzani responded to a couple of Tweets regarding the situation yesterday which give a glimpse into his thoughts.

It seems the Italian is all for finishing the season even if it means extending in the currently allocated time frame for 2020-21.

Of course, the issues of player contracts, loans, and behind-closed-doors suitability all need to be broached.

But with Leeds United top of the Championship, Radrizzani clearly wants his players to be given a sporting chance of finishing what they have started and earning a long-awaited promotion to the Premier League.
