Everton ace Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been praised by Paul Merson following his recent heroics for Carlo Ancelotti’s Toffees.

The 23-year-old is in incredible form at present, having scored hat-tricks in Everton’s last two games and taking his tally to eight in five appearances in all competitions this season.

Calvert-Lewin’s heroics have led to his first England call-up, Gareth Southgate’s charges taking on Wales, Belgium and Denmark during the October international break.

“He fully deserves an England call up – he 100 percent should be in there and should play in these upcoming games in my opinion,” Merson wrote in the Daily Star.

“He is scoring goals in the hardest league in the world and I would have been shocked if Gareth Southgate had ignored him.

“He is good in the air, deceptively quick, can mix it if trouble comes and he’s become a good finisher now.”

It seems like an eternity ago that Calvert-Lewin was subject to a lot of criticism, but now the £1.5million signing looks like the bargain of the century.

He’s a young player who simply needed time to develop, and coaching from a top-class manager like Ancelotti always helps.

Calvert-Lewin has gone on to answer his critics emphatically, and now boasts a Ronaldo-esque goal ratio early on this season, his efforts rewarded with his first England call-up.

Even better for Everton, he is contracted to the club until 2025, so Toffees fans can look forward to a lot more from him in a strong line-up and under a world-class manager.
