A number of Tottenham Hotspur fans have taken to Twitter to bemoan the latest update on Giovani Lo Celso, who looks set to be out of action until after the New Year.

The past few months have seen the Argentina international in and out of the Spurs squad due to injuries, and he had to make do with a bit-part role at the start of the current campaign.

Handed a start last Sunday against Leicester, Lo Celso had to come off barely a minute after the restart after appearing to sustain a muscle injury when trying to win the ball off Harvey Barnes.

Ahead of Sunday’s Premier League trip to Wolves, Jose Mourinho spoke about the fitness of Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele, who both missed the League Cup win over Stoke.

“Gio no, he will not be fit (for Sunday),” Mourinho is quoted by Football London as saying. “Tanguy is fit but he didn’t come to Stoke. My decision, but he is fit.

When pressed on how long Lo Celso could be out for, he replied: “I don’t know, I believe that he will not be playing in this period of Christmas and New Year for sure.”

The news came as a big disappointment to Spurs fans, some of whom gave their thoughts on social media:

Lo Celso joined Tottenham in the summer of 2019 on an initial loan switch from Real Betis before the move was made permanent in January this year for a reported £27.2million fee.

To date, the playmaker has made 56 competitive appearances for Spurs in all competitions, including 19 this season.
