Tottenham Hotspur loanee Cameron Carter-Vickers has been praised by Luton boss Nathan Jones, in conversation with Luton Today.

The 22-year-old has come through the ranks at Tottenham but to date has only made four senior appearances for Spurs since his 2016 debut (Transfermarkt).

Carter-Vickers was on loan at Stoke City earlier in the season made 15 appearances in all competitions for the Potters, including 12 in the Championship.

However, his last Stoke appearance was in the loss to Blackburn at the end of November and, with little prospect of game time in the second half of the season, was recalled by Spurs.

Carter-Vickers then joined the Hatters on loan and has done well so far, making eight appearances and contributing to two wins, three draws and two clean sheets.

The United States international put in an impressive performance last time out, in a 1-1 draw with Preston, and Jones sang the on-loan player’s praises.

“Cam’s a good athlete, he’s a good defender and I took him at Stoke after the injury to Ryan Shawcross,” he told Luton Today.

“He’s difficult to replace, Shawcross, we went a different route with a different type of defender and Cam has done really well.

“I like Cam, he’s a really good lad, fits into the dressing room quite easily, he’s very amiable, hard-working, fit.

“Because he comes from Tottenham he’s had a good education, we know that and any young player I’ve ever taken from Tottenham character-wise has been wonderful.

“Athletically he’s very good so to be honest with you that didn’t surprise me.”

Carter-Vickers hasn’t managed to break into the Tottenham first team just yet, but at 22 years of age, at least time is on his side.

He’s currently on the fifth loan spell of his career and, with his contract up next summer, Spurs will have to make a decision soon.

With Tottenham’s defence having been a weak point, Jones’ comments could give Mourinho food for thought – has Carter-Vickers done enough to justify getting another look-in at Spurs?
