Gomez sinks the Dutch as Portugal take 3 points - Euro 2012 Matchday 6
Group B continued this afternoon. Denmark faced a tough task against Portugal before Germany kicked-off against the Netherlands
A super strike by Robin van Persie failed to prevent the Netherlands from suffering a second successive defeat in Group B.
Two fine first-half goals from Mario Gomez, both set up by Bastian Schweinsteiger, put Germany in charge.
A talented Dutch side looked out of sorts for much of the match, but Arsenal striker Van Persie gave them hope with a drilled right-foot shot from outside the area.
Germany lead Group B on six points and the Netherlands retain only a slim chance of progressing to the knockout stages.
A late goal from Silvestre Varela handed Portugal a crucial win over Denmark at Euro 2012.
Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner had looked like earning Denmark a draw with two headers, while Portugal star Cristiano Ronaldo struggled in front of goal.
But substitute Varela scored in the dying minutes with a drilled shot at the second attempt.
Portugal had earlier gone into a 2-0 lead through a Pepe header and a Helder Postiga volley, before Bendtner threatened to deny their Group B rivals.
