Gold says he has been told that on-loan Tottenham star is pretty much signed

Alasdair Gold has told his YouTube channel that the permanent deal in Cristian Romero’s Tottenham loan is as much of an obligation, without being labelled an obligation. He says contracts have already been agreed.

Romero, 23, joined Tottenham on a loan-to-buy deal in the summer from Atalanta. That is, despite Romero being expected to join on a permanent basis immediately. He has impressed since joining.

Clocking up 13 appearances, Romero has clocked up four clean sheets – and is viewed as ideal on the right of a back three alongside Eric Dier by Antonio Conte. The Guardian say his permanent clause is worth £46.75m.

Asked about Romero’s loan and whether his injury might hamper the decision to make his signing a permanent one, Gold stated it is already a done deal. He shares that he has been told the contracts are agreed.

“That deal, although technically termed as an option to buy, it is as close you can get to an obligation. Without calling it an obligation,” Football London reporter Gold said. “That’s what I’ve been told.

“The contracts have already been agreed. That’s why it was billed as a long-term deal, before it was announced as a loan. Spurs expect to take up that option,” Gold added.

Gold on Romero: Tottenham fans should feel relieved by update

Initially signing him on loan, Tottenham fans were perhaps concerned that they might not actually get Romero for more than a season. So, Gold’s comments will relieve those who were still unsure about him signing permanently.

Under Conte, Romero could sparkle. The Italian gaffer is widely-renowned for being a fan of Romero. In a back three, the Copa America winner could shine. A permanent deal for Romero then, is likely – and will delight fans.
