'Going to be some player': Boss of Spurs loanee says Jose Mourinho could have a real gem on his hands
Tottenham Hotspur loanee Troy Parrott has been praised by Paul Lambert, who says Spurs boss Jose Mourinho could have a “very good player” on his hands.
The 19-year-old, one of Tottenham’s most highly rated academy gems, is now with Ipswich after being recalled from Millwall during the January transfer window.
Parrott’s time in Southeast London didn’t go to plan amid injuries and a lack of starts, so he made the switch from the Championship side to the League One outfit.
Lambert named the Spurs youngster in his starting XI in the weekend game against Blackpool, playing 70 minutes en route to a 2-0 win for the East Anglians.
While Parrott didn’t score, he looked bright throughout, and after the game, the Ipswich boss was pleased with the debutant.
“Some of the football was good and Parrott did really well up front,” Lambert told the Blues website. “He showed some excellent movement and footwork.
“If he progresses the way I think he will then Tottenham could have a very good player on their hands.”
Lambert is also quoted by the Irish Independent as saying: “Troy Parrott can be anything he wants to be.
“For somebody who has just turned 19, if he keeps progressing he’s going to be some player.
“The pass for Freddie Sears was brilliant. We saw it in training. We know what he can offer.”
Parrott is deemed one of Tottenham’s best academy graduates in recent years, and during last year’s crisis up front, there were many calls from fans and pundits for Mourinho to give the teenager senior game time.
While Mourinho’s stance looks justified now, with Parrott looking like he needs more time to develop, he’s certainly heading in the right direction now, and hopefully he’ll have a successful stint at Portman Road.
