Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has become hot property after his World Cup heroics for England, and now the Toffees may have to part ways with the talented youngster a year after bringing him to Goodison Park, with Chelsea eyeing up a move for the 24-year-old.
The Sun state Pickford has emerged as a target for Chelsea should their current number one Thibaut Courtois leave Stamford Bridge for Real Madrid; a move which looks almost certain to take place before the transfer window shuts on August 9th.
‘I would have caught it. He was too busy throwing his legs in the air.’
Everton only signed Pickford last summer, for £30 million from Sunderland. However, after a terrific World Cup outing for England, Marco Silva’s side wouldn’t be letting go of their shot-stopper for anything other than an astronomical fee.
Chances are Everton may become part of the goalkeeping merry go round, and if so, they’ll have to act fast in recruiting a worthy replacement for Pickford in time for the start of the new Premier League season; here are three goalkeeping options they should consider.
Jasper Cillessen – Barcelona
The 29-year-old shot-stopper has been linked with a move away from Spanish giants Barcelona this summer and would reportedly be available to sign for 30 million euros, according to Spanish news outlet Marca.
Cilleseen is a highly rated goalkeeper in Europe and would be a very worthy replacement for Pickford if the England international was to leave Goodison Park.
His lack of game time at Barcelona means he is likely to be looking for a way out and for a goalkeeper with the pedigree and credentials the Dutch international possesses, 30 million euros could prove to be a steal.
Kevin Trapp – Paris Saint-Germain
After Gianluigi Buffon joined PSG this summer , Kevin Trapp has moved further down the pecking order at the French giants and wouldn’t be a bad option to pursue for the Merseyside club.
Despite being unable to hold down a first team position, Trapp has shown glimpses of the talent he possesses between the sticks when given the opportunity to do so.
The 28-year-old still has some of his best years in the tank and the chance to be number one week in, week out alongside the fresh challenge of the Premier League could be just what he needs to reignite his career.
Jack Butland – Stoke City
After being relegated with Stoke last season, Jack Butland’s departure from the club has been one of the major talking points this summer, and the England international looks set to leave the side where he has made his name.
The Sun states that Butland is also a target for Chelsea alongside Pickford, should their current number one Thibaut Courtois leave the club during this transfer window.
A player of Butland’s calibre belongs in the Premier League, and despite losing his England number one spot to Pickford during this summer’s World Cup, there’s little between the two regarding talent and Premier League experience.
