Arsenal stopper Aaron Ramsdale gets team of the season nod following excellent form

It’s safe to say the last few months have been quite a whirlwind for Arsenal goalkeeper, Aaron Ramsdale, who has been making huge strides since his arrival from Sheffield United.

Ramsdale arrived at The Emirates for around £30m. At the time, there was a sense that the Gunners had overpaid for a goalkeeper with two successive Premier League relegations to his name. However, since then, he’s dislodged Bernd Leno as the number one and struck up a brilliant relationship with the Arsenal fans.

England honours have followed for Ramsdale, with some even tipping him to become number one sooner rather than later. And now, at the midway point of the season, the Arsenal man has been included in Goal’s team of the season so far.

Goal write how Ramsdale has been ‘magnificent’ for the Gunners. High praise indeed, and very much in line with when Ian Wright labelled the stopper as a ‘phenomenon’ for how he’s handled the move to North London.

Ramsdale is the only Arsenal player to get the nod. He features alongside Man City stars such as Ruben Dias and Bernardo Silva, while Liverpool duo Mo Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold are also involved.

He said himself in a recent interview that he’d prefer to be judged over a longer period of time. And that’s what needs to be done before we start saying Ramsdale is one of the very best.

Sure enough, he’s done well so far this season. A number of fine saves, eye-catching performances, and those celebrations with fans have done him no harm. But this is a long season, and there are bound to be bad times ahead.

How Ramsdale handles those tough times will show his true mettle. Let’s not forget, Bernd Leno is still a top goalkeeper who will want his chance back.
