Glenn Whelan has been discussing his joy at winning promotion with Aston Villa last season, but has already put the achievement in the rear-view mirror.
The Republic of Ireland midfielder was handed his release this summer after helping Aston Villa to achieve a Premier League return.
Whelan, who played 38 times for Aston Villa last season, is now set to embark on a new challenge with Scottish Premiership side Hearts.

Speaking to the club’s official website (subscription needed), the midfielder made it clear he has quickly moved on from the success of last season.
“Everywhere I’ve gone I’ve always been successful and achieved what I wanted to and I’m not just up here for a jolly or a holiday, I’m here to improve players and win games.
“It was great getting promoted to the Premier League with Aston Villa but for me that’s gone now.
“I can look back on it when I’m old and wrinkly and I’m here to do as well as I can.”
TBR’s View
Aston Villa fans might see Whelan’s comments as slightly non-emotional but it highlights the character that the 35-year-old is likely to bring to Edinburgh this season.
The experienced midfielder clearly enjoyed his time at Aston Villa but his no-nonsense attitude simply sees it as job done and time to move on.
Hearts will be hoping to get as close to the dominant Old Firm in Scotland this season and maybe embark on another cup run.
Whelan will no doubt be hoping to celebrate another big win at the end of next season, just as he did with Aston Villa last.
