Glenn Hoddle thinks Spurs have a player who hasn’t adapted yet, despite joining years ago

Tottenham Hotspur legend Glenn Hoddle believes Davinson Sanchez hasn’t adapted to playing for Spurs yet as he discussed the club’s need to bolster their defensive ranks.

The 24-year-old joined Tottenham in 2017 from Ajax in a then club-record £42million deal, and has made 148 competitive appearances for the north Londoners.

However, Sanchez has struggled at times this season, and was particularly shaky against Newcastle at the start of April.

He sat out Spurs’ subsequent game against Manchester United, but Jose Mourinho’s charges didn’t fare much better, falling to a 3-1 defeat.

Tottenham’s latest loss prompted more discussions over the future of Harry Kane, and Hoddle spoke of the bigger picture at the club in terms of player recruitment.

“A little bit like Arsenal, Spurs need defenders, you’ve got players in the winter of their careers,” he told Premier League Productions on Optus Sport.

“I’m not sure Rodon is ready yet to be top quality for Tottenham, Sanchez hasn’t adapted yet, they’ve got a problem at the back they need to put right.

“Lloris… there might be a change in that position… there are a lot of things not only for Harry Kane, but for the club, that are at a little bit of a crossroads.”

Sanchez had been playing well prior to his display against Newcastle, but given his tough day on Tyneside, it wasn’t surprising to see Mourinho drop him against the Red Devils.

Sometimes it just doesn’t work out for a player at a club, but he’s certainly got plenty of talent, as shown by reported interest from the likes of Barcelona.

You could just see Sanchez going on to become a top player at Camp Nou if he does leave Spurs this summer.
