Tottenham Hotspur legend Glenn Hoddle has suggested that Matt Doherty is struggling at Spurs because he’s not suited to a back four and is more of a winger than a full-back.
The 29-year-old joined Tottenham from Wolvws in August in a reported £14.7million deal and penning a four-year deal in North London.
Doherty made 50 appearances for Wolves last season as they finished seventh in the Premier League and reached the quarter-finals of the Europa League.

Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo tended to deploy the Irishman as a right wing-back ahead of three at the back.
Meanwhile, Mourinho has been using Doherty more as a conventional right-back as part of a back four.
He is yet to fully convince the Spurs faithful of his suitability for the club, and he particularly struggled in Sunday’s derby defeat at Arsenal.
In his latest Evening Standard column, Hoddle was asked why it’s not worked out for Doherty at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
“We saw him play exceedingly well for Wolves and when he first went to Tottenham I thought that would mean they would be looking to play with a back three.
“Wing-back is his position and I think he finds it hard in a back four. I really do feel that is the problem. It is that slight adjustment from a wing-back to a full-back.
“You have to be on the cover a bit more, you have to defend a little bit deeper and you are not as advanced. He always used to sneak round the back for Wolves and look a threat.
“You could do that because you had three centre-backs. He was more of a winger than a right-back.”
TBR View:
You’ve got to feel a little sorry for Doherty – his position is right wing-back and, as Hoddle says, he’s more of a winger than a defender.
Now, he’s copping a lot of criticism from fans and pundits, but if he’s effectively being played out of position, then it’s little surprise that he’s not doing too well.
