Glenn Hoddle has sung the praises of one of Chelsea’s main players, suggesting he isn’t appreciated as much as he should be.

Chelsea have had a decent enough start to their Premier League campaign, though they were no match for Bayern Munich in their Champions League opener.

Trevoh Chalobah’s own goal and a Harry Kane brace gave Bayern a 3-1 win over Chelsea, who scored a consolation through Cole Palmer.

Palmer was Chelsea’s best player on the night and could have had a brace, but he was just offside when he found the back of the net a second time.

Glenn Hoddle, who featured for Chelsea late on in his playing career and later managed the Blues, gave his verdict on Palmer.

Cole Palmer would be admired ‘even more’ if he played for another country

Hoddle, speaking on TNT Sports during the game, described Palmer as a “wonderful player” and agreed with Joe Cole about building the England team around him.

Hoddle also claimed that the likes of Palmer, Phil Foden and Eberechi Eze would be admired even more if they played for other nations.

“They’re back in the game, what a finish,” Hoddle said after Palmer’s goal.

“How easy does that look, but it’s not easy; the balance to hit it first time and just pass it into the corner, a wonderful goal.

“Wonderful player, and I agree with Joe, he’s a must for England, build the team around him.

“We’ve got some wonderful players, Foden, Eze, Palmer, amazing talents. If other countries had all these talents, we’d be admiring them even more.”

How Cole Palmer has fared in his first 100 Chelsea appearances

Palmer hit a huge milestone on Wednesday, clocking up a century of competitive appearances for Chelsea.

The 23-year-old has registered an impressive 45 goals and 29 assists in his first century of outings for the West Londoners.

Palmer has done so well that he is now indispensable for Chelsea, is a key squad member for England, and has been nominated for the Ballon d’Or.

He’s still in the early days of his career, so it’ll be interesting to see how he fares over the coming years as he hits his peak.
