Glenn Hoddle predicts what Tottenham will do in January, comments on Gareth Bale

Glenn Hoddle has told his Footy Show podcast that he does not believe Tottenham Hotspur will enter the January transfer window but predicted exits for Dele Alli and Harry Winks – and claims an improving Gareth Bale can be like a new signing.

Spurs spent the best part of £100million in the summer, spending big on the likes of Joe Rodon, Matt Doherty, Sergio Reguilon, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Gareth Bale, Carlos Vinicius, and Joe Hart. It means a January spending spree is unlikely.

However, with such an influx of players inevitably comes those who are not as happy. Winks has been forced to play in the Europa League games, while Alli has failed to even feature in some of those – being left on the bench last time out.

Ex-Tottenham and England manager Hoddle does not think Spurs will make any signings, but could offload Winks and Alli. However, he reckons an improved Bale could act like a new signing – with the Real Madrid loanee making a slow start.

“I don’t think he’ll touch it [January],” Hoddle said. “There might be players looking to leave. Dele Alli, Harry Winks comes to mind. They will have one eye on the Euros. I don’t see Alli or Winks going unless there is an unbelievable bid on the table.

“They need to be playing and I can’t see them getting in. They will focus on getting Bale closer to his top form. He’s a little fragile, on the back foot. He might be the new player Tottenham are looking for.”

TBR’s view – Should Winks and Alli leave Tottenham on loan?

Without a shadow of doubt. Winks has been in the England side this season but he will lose his place in the team if he continues to fail in his pursuit of regular game time – and a loan is needed to firm up his chances of Euro 2021 action.

Remaining in the Premier League is key. A move to a Leeds, an Everton or a team that plays exciting football in mid-table would be best. Alli, though, is probably best served to go abroad and show he can still shine in Europe.

Both may have a chance over Christmas, but Winks and Alli – at this point – should leave on loan.
