Glenn Hoddle loved how Antonio Conte got Tottenham playing against Liverpool

Former Tottenham and England manager, Glenn Hoddle, was full of praise for his old club and their manager, Antonio Conte, as they drew 2-2 with Liverpool on Super Sunday.

In what was a thrilling game of Premier League football, both Spurs and Liverpool gave as good as each other before settling for a point apiece. The game had big moments throughout, with Andy Robertson seeing red for Jurgen Klopp’s side and Harry Kane escaping punishment for a similarly bad tackle.

For Tottenham and Conte, it was the biggest sign yet of improvement. Conte had his team at it from the start and on another day, they’d have scored five. But regardless of the lack of cutting edge at times, Glenn Hoddle felt that Conte deserved huge credit for being brave in his tactics.

“I think he’s onto something good. Today was brave. He’s got his tactics absolutely spot on. They could have been three up before Liverpool even started,” Hoddle told PremierLeague.com.

“Liverpool didn’t do anything about it. You saw how many times they got in behind today. It’s growing, you can see there’s some progression there and I think given a bit of time, there’s some success around the corner.”

Conte has been brought in by Daniel Levy for performances like this. The Spurs supremo is reportedly paying the Italian a whopping £30m over his 18-month contract. Certainly, for that money, you’d expect some displays like Spurs produced against the Reds.

Most Spurs fans are delighted with seeing Conte in the dugout and this performance yesterday was a sign of what they hope is to come. It was hard-working, high tempo, and filled with moments of quality. And you have to remember, this was with a depleted side too.

Conte is definitely turning things around at Spurs. And Glenn Hoddle is right in his praise, Conte does deserve credit for how he went at Liverpool. Maybe, just maybe, other PL teams might follow suit.
