Glenn Hoddle lauds Dani Ceballos as Arsenal defeat Sheffield United

Glenn Hoddle raved about Dani Ceballos after Arsenal defeated Sheffield United 3-0 at Bramall Lane last night.

The former Tottenham star was part of the coverage for Optus Sport and raved about the Spaniard’s work in the build-up to the first goal.

A brace by Alexandre Lacazette and a goal by Gabriel Martinelli moved Arsenal up to ninth and gave them a badly-needed three points.

Ceballos has struggled for consistency during the current campaign, with the midfielder on a second loan stint from Real Madrid.

He did showcase some class last night, however, and gave the opposition a torrid time.

Hoddle enjoyed his play in the lead up to Lacazette’s first goal and raved about his quality.

He told Optus Sport: “This goal is lovely one and two touch football.

“They were on top no doubt, but they needed a chance and they got it. It was a wonderful move and what a flick by Ceballos.

“That’s great skill to open the defence up like that, it’s truly fabulous and a great finish.”

TBR View: Arteta facing decision on Ceballos

It seems highly unlikely that Real Madrid will allow the playmaker to join the Gunners for a third spell on loan.

As a result, Arsenal must decide whether or not to take a chance on the player and sign him permanently.

The 24-year-old has been largely disappointing this season, registering just three assists during 34 outings.

Arsenal might look elsewhere for a midfield option going into next season, with Ceballos likely to be expensive.

Given his age, Mikel Arteta might see him as someone who can improve but there are better around than the £51,000-a-week player.

Ceballos can only keep his head down and continue putting maximum effort in.

A few more performances like last night and perhaps Arsenal will try and sign him permanently after all.
