Glen Johnson believes that Liverpool could be the best destination for Borussia Dortmund attacker Jadon Sancho amid reported widespread interest in him.
The England international has been tearing it up in the Bundesliga this season, as well as helping his team reach the last-16 of the Champions League.
According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool have made contact to German outfit Dortmund to inform them they are keen on his signature in the summer.
It is understood that the 19-year-old is likely to cost at least £100million, while there is also interest from Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea, Real Madrid and Barcelona in him too.
Ex-Reds defender Johnson has suggested that Anfield could be the ideal move for the highly-rated teenager and long-term the best for his future, as he would be allowed time to be integrated to Jurgen Klopp’s side.
“He’s a fantastic young player and he can literally luckily for him take his time, pretty much everyone that can afford his transfer fee are going to want him,” Johnson told talkSPORT.
“If he goes to a team like United the team are not where they should be, as a young kid I think they will put too much on him from day one. Whereas if he were to go to a Chelsea or a Liverpool or in Spain they would bleed him into the squad over time.
“It might not be the best decision for him today [to join Liverpool], but in two years time when we don’t know what their team or squad is going to look like he could by then be in amongst it. Let’s face it in two years time he’s still only 21.
“The foundation of the club is set in stone, everything is in the right place. I just think they would bleed him into the team in the right manner.”
Sancho is a phenomenal talent being chased by the world’s elite clubs and Liverpool have certainly proven in the past couple of years they are one of the best around, having lost one and won one Champions League final in the previous two seasons.
The Premier League audience is desperate to see the English right-winger ripping it up in his homeland and he’s got the potential to be one of the best in the world.
He’s played 29 games across all competitions this season for Dortmund, scoring 15 goals and supplying 17 assists in return.
It’s unclear on where the teenage talent will end up, but he would be a brilliant signing for any side in England.
