Glen Johnson is expecting Liverpool to win away at Manchester United on Sunday in the Premier League and feels they are “miles ahead” of their rivals.
Jurgen Klopp’s team currently sit top of the league with a 100 per cent win record from eight games, while United are already 15 points behind them in 12th.
The Merseyside club missed out on the title last season despite accumulating 97 points and are once again pushing themselves to go for the top-flight crown.
Liverpool are one of the best teams around right now and have a Champions League triumph last season to prove it.
Meanwhile, United are completely looking to rebuild under manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and look so far off the top pace.
Ex-Liverpool defender Johnson believes his former side are a class above United and should collect another three points this weekend.
But he’s wary of the challenge of a trip to Old Trafford and it’s a fixture that Liverpool have struggled with in recent times.
“On Sunday, although United have been struggling, they will get an extra 20 per cent purely because of this game. Regardless of the XI, whoever plays, they will get a boost,” Johnson told talkSPORT.
“It’s still Man United and it’s still Old Trafford, and although I’m saying the team is weaker than it was, they can still perform. They’re still a decent side, I just think Liverpool are miles ahead at the moment.
“As long as they perform as they have been I expect them to win, but it’s still Old Trafford.”
Liverpool should be confident of another win at the weekend, as they have been swatting everyone aside so far this season in the league and look like they mean business with their title bid.
It’s always going to be a colossal fixture against rivals United, but there is a major gap in quality between the teams and it seems unimaginable that Klopp will allow his side’s standards to slip.
The lethal front trio of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah could have a field day against United’s defence, while they run all over them in the midfield too.
