Glasgow Rangers are set to speak to Giovanni van Bronckhorst over the Ibrox vacancy today, according to the Daily Record.

The Gers are looking for a new manager after Steven Gerrard left Ibrox earlier this week.

And while several candidates are believed to be in the running, Van Bronckhorst is thought to be the frontrunner.

According to the Daily Record, a Light Blues delegation will meet Van Bronckhorst after he flew into Britain this weekend.

Ross Wilson reportedly opened dialogue with the coach’s advisors and the crunch meeting was quickly set up.

The report claims he will look for assurances over his backroom team and financial backing to strengthen – especially if key players are sold in January.

Van Bronckhorst will also reportedly hope to bring in Jean-Paul van Gastel, who worked with him at Feyenoord, and Jan Wouters as part of his backroom staff.

The Dutchman is currently a free agent after leaving Chinese Super League side Guangzhou R&F last December for family reasons.

Rangers set to appoint ‘winner’?

Van Bronckhorst played for Rangers between 1998 and 2001.

He won five trophies while playing for the famous club, including two league titles.

The 46-year-old also played for Barcelona, Arsenal and Feyenoord, as well as winning over 100 caps for the Netherlands.

Van Bronckhorst has also managed Feyenoord, leading them to the Eredivisie title in 2017 – their first in 18 years.

He also won two KNVB Cups and two Johan Cruyff Shields while in charge of the Rotterdam club.

Lorenzo Amoruso has given Van Bronckhorst his seal of approval for the Rangers manager’s job.

“During Gio’s career he has been a winner,” Amoruso told the Scottish Sun.

“He won plenty of cups and leagues so he knows what it takes.

“He will know exactly what is required at Rangers and that is always important at such a special club.

“He will definitely have a good picture of what it will take to keep Rangers the best team in the country.

“In that respect there are probably few better candidates than Giovanni.”
