A number of Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Emiliano Martinez’s error for Aston Villa in last night’s Premier League game.

The 28-year-old, who spent 10 years on the Gunners’ books, swapped the Emirates Stadium for Villa Park in a reported £20million deal in the summer.

Martinez, who spent most of his Arsenal career as a deputy, excelled in the absence of Bernd Leno at the tail end of last season and in the Community Shield at the start of 2020-21.

However, a desire for regular first-team football and winning caps for Argentina led to the player seeking first-team action elsewhere, culminating in a move to the West Midlands side.

Debate has raged amongst Arsenal fans regarding whether Mikel Arteta was right to sell Martinez, particularly after Leno’s error against Wolves in midweek.

However, the former Gunners stopper also made a mistake in his side’s midweek match, Jesse Lingard’s shot going through his hands for West Ham’s third of the game.

Cue a number of Arsenal fans giving their thoughts on social media:
