Gjanni Alioski makes claim about Leeds United supporters

Gjanni Alioski has told Leeds United’s official website that the Elland Road faithful will always be in his heart, and insisted that he has never seen anything like the support that the Whites receive.

Leeds fans have had plenty to cheer about since Alioski came to the club in 2017. The Peacocks registered an underwhelming finish in his first season. But Marcelo Bielsa’s arrival has changed the game.

The Whites came agonisingly close to sealing automatic-promotion last season, and they suffered more heartbreak in the play-offs. But there is no question that it was an incredible campaign for the club.

And the anxiety is building once again this time around. Leeds are in an even better position this season, with Bielsa’s men 10 points clear of third place Preston North End.

The anxiety comes in because it is clear that Leeds have put themselves in another fantastic place. But Saturday’s 3-3 draw with Cardiff City was a cruel reminder that there is a lot of work still to do.

And Alioski explained that Leeds feel an additional sense of responsibility to get across the line because of how much the fans give to them.

“It’s unbelievable!  I’ve never seen this before.  I watch a lot of football and play in other countries and compare, but the Leeds fans are crazy… Crazy in a positive sense,” he told the club’s official website.

“They support us in every game home and away and we feel bad when we lose, we want to send them home happy.  When we can’t do this, I am also sad.  The Leeds fans will always be in my heart, they are beautiful and amazing fans right until the end.  They support us absolutely everywhere and I want to say thank you to them.”

Sleeping giant

It is often said that Leeds are one of those clubs that should be in the top flight. And the size of the fanbase is one of the reasons why the Whites continue to be deemed a sleeping giant more than 15 years after their last taste of Premier League football.

Based on the way they are playing at the moment however, it may not be too long before Leeds regain their place at English football’s top table.
