'Giving us encouragement': David Moyes impressed by £7m ace in West Ham training

West Ham United boss David Moyes has backed Michail Antonio to hit the goal trail soon.

The Hammers manager says he’s “beginning to see little bits” from the forward in training which are encouraging.

Antonio began the season superbly, with four goals and three assists in West Ham’s first three Premier League games.

The 31-year-old also scored against Dinamo Zagreb and assisted against Rapid Vienna in the Europa League.

However, Antonio has since struggled for form, with just four goals and three assists in the league since September.

Speaking ahead of West Ham’s meeting with Newcastle, Moyes praised the Hammers team for chipping in with goals from different positions.

“I want him to get on the goalscoring sheet regularly”

The West Ham boss stressed that Antonio is “really important” to the team and feels the £7million man will soon be back on the scoresheet.

“I want him to get on the goalscoring sheet regularly,” Moyes told football.london.

“But as a club it is not a problem as we’re still fourth in the Premier League as goals scored goes.

“So we are really fortunate. We have other people who have stepped up with goals in different areas in the team.

“Generally, any football manager would probably want the goals to be shared around because it shows you can score from different areas.

“I want to get Mich back to the levels because he’s really important for the team.

“Even last week at Leicester he did not get a goal but I am just beginning to see little bits which are giving us encouragement he’s getting back.

“I don’t think it’ll be too long before he’s back on the scoresheet.”

Antonio is still second in West Ham’s goalscoring charts this term on nine, while Jarrod Bowen is top with 12.

In addition, Antonio has eight assists, while Bowen has nine.

Said Benrahma, Manuel Lanzini, Pablo Fornals and Declan Rice have also scored four or more goals this term.
