‘Give him Willian’s minutes’: Some Arsenal fans want Mikel Arteta to unleash Hale End graduate

A number of Arsenal fans have urged Mikel Arteta to start giving Reiss Nelson more game time after he admitted the Gunners gem deserves more chances.

The 21-year-old attacker came through the Hale End ranks and has been tipped for a huge future in the game.

Speaking to The Sun last year, former Arsenal academy coach Andries Jonker claimed that, out of about 250 youth players, Nelson was one of three he considered to be elite talents.

However, Nelson has struggled for game time under Arteta this season, and was being tipped for a loan move in January, though this didn’t materialise.

He has made 47 competitive appearances for Arsenal’s first team, but just nine have come this term, and he hasn’t made a single start in the Premier League this season.

Indeed, Nelson wasn’t in the squad for the Gunners’ victory against Newcastle either.

Arteta was asked about Nelson after the match, and the Spaniard said, as quoted by football.london: “With Reiss I would like to give him more.

“He’s a boy who trains really hard, he wants to do extra all the time but it’s very difficult at the moment with the players that we have to fit him.

“I feel sorry that we don’t have other competitions to use him because he deserves more. If he doesn’t play more it’s my fault.”

However, some Arsenal fans aren’t pleased with Arteta’s comments, and a few reckon Nelson would be better suited to Willian’s minutes:
