Plenty of Arsenal fans took to social media last night to praise Thomas Partey’s goal for his side, jokingly congratulating him for his “farewell” effort.
The Atletico Madrid midfielder has been linked with Mikel Arteta’s Gunners for a number of months and, according to Mundo Deportivo, is a priority target for the Emirates Stadium side.
Speculation linking Partey to Arsenal gathered pace in April when his father told Tru FM’s Sports World Show – as transcribed by Football London – that both parties had been in contact about a possible switch to London.

However, GhanaSoccerNet claimed earlier this week that Partey will instead put pen to paper on a new £135,000-per-week deal at the Wanda Metropolitano, which will see him more than double his wages.
Given the myriad of speculation twists and turns when it comes to the football transfer window, plenty of Arsenal fans haven’t given up just yet on the prospect of signing the £65,000-a-week Ghana international.
On Thursday, the 27-year-old came off the bench to score the second goal in a 2-0 win at Getafe, a powerful drive from close range.
The goal announcement on Atletico’s English Twitter feed prompted many Gunners supporters to flock to it and have their say:
