'Give him the keys': Some Newcastle fans wowed by who club's reportedly interviewing for key role
Newcastle United are reportedly keen on bringing Ralf Rangnick over to St James’ Park as their new sporting director.
According to The Telegraph, the 63-year-old has been intrigued by the prospect of working in the Premier League for some time.
And according to The Mirror, Newcastle are set to interview Rangnick, as well as former Paris Saint-Germain chief Antero Henrique.
The Magpies are under new ownership, with a Saudi-led consortium taking over from Mike Ashley last week.
Magpies boss Steve Bruce is reportedly expected to be sacked soon – perhaps even before their next match.
As well as potential changes in the dugout, the new owners are also looking to bring in new people to make up the club hierarchy.
Newcastle target Rangnick – “the best German coach” who “has a legacy”
Rangnick’s CV, as both a manager and a director, is impressive.
At Hoffenheim, he achieved successive promotions to lead the club to the Bundesliga.
At Schalke, meanwhile, he won the 2011 DFB-Pokal and reached the semi-finals of the Champions League.
And at Red Bull, he turned their clubs into domestic powerhouses and conveyor belts of talent, sold for big profits and replaced by more superb prospects.
Rangnick is currently Head of Sports and Development at Lokomotiv Moscow.
“The Professor” also invented Gegenpressing and is credited for influencing Thomas Tuchel, Julian Nagelsmann, Ralph Hasenhuttl, and Jurgen Klopp.
The Liverpool boss is quoted by ESPN as saying Rangnick is “one of the best, if not the best German coach”.
And Andreas Beck, who played for Rangnick at Hoffenheim, told Goal.com: “What happened in Hoffenheim happened afterwards at RB Leipzig; it is all his idea.
“Ralf has a legacy and people will remember him.
“He innovated, wanted to change things and now you see Dortmund and Bayern Munich are hunting the ball.
“Manchester City are doing it, too, with Pep Guardiola.”
What have Newcastle fans made of links with Rangnick?
