Tottenham have hit form once again.
Spurs have won four of their last five games, but things at Tottenham are still far from perfect.
Indeed, while Spurs are playing well at the moment, there’s still a defensive crisis at Spurs right now.
Micky Van de Ven, Eric Dier and Cristian Romero are out with injuries at this moment in time, and Spurs are having to field a makeshift backline that includes both Ben Davies and Emerson Royal – two full-backs, playing at centre-half.
Spurs don’t have any fit senior centre-backs available at the moment, but they do have some young players who can step up, and according to Clinton Morrison, speaking on Sky Sports (31/12/23 1:25PM), Spurs should give Ashley Phillips a chance to shine at the heart of the defence.

Phillips should start
Morrison shared his verdict on the ‘phenomenal‘ defender.
“Why not give the youngsters an opportunity? The young lad Phillips came in from Blackburn, why not give him a chance? Give him a chance next to Ben Davies. I understand it’s a big game,” Morrison said.
Best chance
It’s always risky to throw a young player into the mix at a team like Tottenham, but, at the same time, this is the best chance Spurs will get to give a player like Phillips a chance without much pressure attached.
Tottenham have no defensive options right now, and it’s at times like these that young players start to make their names.
So many times in the past we’ve seen pressure create diamonds when young players have been thrown in at the deep end, and after conceding six goals in their last three games, Spurs may want to shake things up at the back in order to try to keep a few more clean sheets.
Phillips could be in line to get a shot at Spurs in the coming weeks.
