Glasgow Rangers have confirmed the appointment of Giovanni van Bronckhorst as the new Ibrox manager.

The Rangers cult hero returns to Ibrox – subject to receipt of a work permit – to succeed Steven Gerrard as first-team boss.

Rangers sporting director Ross Wilson confirmed that talks to find a new manager began within 48 hours of Gerrard’s decision.

The Light Blues concluded their decision-making within six days of the role becoming available, resulting in Van Bronckhorst taking the reins.

“I am absolutely delighted to be returning to Rangers as the club’s new manager,” Van Bronckhorst told the Gers media team.

“I feel so lucky to be going to work with a squad which is in a great position on all fronts and largely has that experience of being winners.

“I look forward to carrying on and enhancing the work that has been done already alongside Ross Wilson and the board of the club, and I’m grateful for the chance to work again at this huge football club.”

Plenty of Rangers fans are delighted with the news, and some of Van Bronckhorst’s peers have also expressed their excitement.

Ronald de Boer, Van Bronckhorst’s former Rangers and Netherlands teammate, tweeted the following:

And former Rangers coach Michael Beale, now also at Villa with Gerrard, tweeted his well-wishes.
