Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes has made a great start to life at Old Trafford.

The ace completed his move to the Red Devils last month after much speculation, and has already made two appearances for the club.

Fernandes impressed during the goalless draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers, and registered his first assists against Chelsea on Monday night during a 2-0 victory.

Fernandes already looks like he’s going to be a top player for United, and one club that may be hoping he doesn’t shine too brightly is Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs were one of the clubs strongly linked with a move for Fernandes before he elected to join United.

It was claimed the north Londoners did table an offer but it was rebuffed by Sporting CP, whose vice-president Francisco Salgado Zenha recently said United paid over the odds (up to £68 million) for Fernandes (football.london).

Spurs will hope Fernandes doesn’t turn out to be a regret, and one man who can help the club with that is Giovani Lo Celso.

TBR’s view – Lo Celso can ease Fernandes ‘blow’

Some Spurs fans were left disappointed when it became obvious Fernandes would not be joining their club.

Having chalked up some amazing goal and assists statistics in Portugal (63 and 52 in 137 Sporting appearances), some felt this was a case of missed opportunity.

But it need not be for Tottenham, who have a quality midfielder of their own in Lo Celso.

He’s been playing deeper of late, but Lo Celso has quietly been showing he has that creative spark and can definitely be the answer to United’s Fernandes.

For Real Betis last season he hit 16 goals and six assists, suggesting he is more than capable of being the man that makes things happen for Spurs, a role Fernandes would have assumed.
