Gilberto Silva thinks Arsenal ‘missed’ signing ‘amazing’ England star in summer

Gilberto Silva has claimed on his Incredible Wall podcast that Arsenal ‘missed’ signing Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish in the summer, and compared the England attacker to an Invincibles legend.

Grealish, 25, has been in stunning form for Villa this season and has broken into the England side – with supporters calling for the Villa academy product to get even more game time than he has done.

His stats this season have gone to a new level. Last term, Grealish had a hand in 18 goals during his 41 appearances. This season, he already has five goals and six assists in eight matches – despite a summer full of rumours.

The Villa favourite was linked with most of England’s top clubs, but instead put pen to paper on a new £125,000-a-week deal (Telegraph). Silva thinks Arsenal should have signed him, urging his old club to reconsider in the future.

“Grealish, amazing,” Silva told his podcast, when discussing Aston Villa’s 3-0 win over Arsenal at The Emirates last Sunday. “It seems like he could be a player that Arsenal missed.

“With his ability, in the middle, he plays beautiful football. He controls the ball, assists and can score goals. He is slightly different from Dennis Bergkamp, but he could be somebody for the future at Arsenal.”

TBR’s view – Grealish is the perfect signing, more so than Aouar

Yes, Houssem Aouar has shown he can deliver in French football. But Arsenal’s signing from France have hardly been successful of late, have they? Nicolas Pepe cost an enormous £72million, but continues to struggle.

William Saliba is yet to make his debut, Alexandre Lacazette goes in and out of form and while Gabriel has started well, Arsenal are still conceding goals. Aouar would be good, but Grealish would be so much better.

Having already proven his talent in the Premier League – which is now one of the league’s best attacking midfielders – surely Grealish is a much better option than Aouar?
