Gilberto Silva has raved about Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg on his Invisible Wall podcast following Sunday’s 2-0 win over Arsenal in the North London derby – claiming he is the kind of player Jose Mourinho loves.

Spurs cruised past Arsenal despite only boasting 30% possession. Hitting the Gunners on the counter, Son Heung-min scored a stunner while Harry Kane netted his 14th goal of the season after being laid off by Son.

But it was Denmark international and summer signing Hojbjerg starred at the base of the midfield. His warrior-like display made it near impossible for Arsenal to break Spurs down, and he earned enormous plaudits after the match.

Arsenal icon Silva discussed the North London derby and heaped praise on £102,000-a-week midfielder (Spotrac) Hojbjerg – stating he is doing a “great job” for the team and thinks he is the perfect example of a Mourinho-type player.

“Big guys at the back and in the midfield and they are very strong. But then in attack, they are so fast with Harry Kane and Son. With Arsenal, there is something missing – creativity. Against the counter, they could not defend properly. It is a big problem.”

TBR’s view – Is Hojbjerg now as important as Son and Kane?

Clearly, Son and Kane are crucial to Tottenham’s title hunt. The relationship between the two players is telepathic, with Son running in behind and Kane dropping deep – it is near impossible to defend against.

But is Hojbjerg just as important. Mourinho suggested as much during last week’s 3-3 draw with LASK. If Hojbjerg gets injured, Spurs are without their midfield general an that kind of player is crucial in the race for the Premier League title.
