Gilberto Silva raves about three Arsenal stars after win over Benfica

Premier League winner Gilberto Silva has picked out two Arsenal players for praise after last night’s dramatic 3-2 win over Benfica in the Europa League.

Arsenal came from 2-1 down to progress to the last 16 and keep their dreams of winning the competition alive.

Two goals from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and a strike from the £80,000-a-week Kieran Tierney provided the victory and left Arsenal supporters ecstatic.

Arsenal were heading out of the competition when Diogo Goncalves and Rafa Silva fired the Portuguese side into the lead.

The Gunners showed resilience in abundance though and thoroughly deserved their progression in the end.

Silva was buzzing with his former club reaching the next round and after the game, he took to Twitter to rave about the two goalscorers on the night.

Silva helped the Gunners to the league title in 2004 and also lifted two FA Cups during his time playing for the club.

Throughout his career his enjoyed success with whoever he played for and was also part of the Brazil team who won the World Cup in 2002.

He also reserved some praise for Arsenal’s man of the moment Bukayo Saka who claimed assists for both of Aubameyang’s goals.

TBR View: Arsenal must use Benfica performance as a platform to kick on

The Gunners showed superb character last night but they need to use it to gain more belief in the Premier League and start climbing the table.

Arsenal are tenth in the division and with the quality, Mikel Arteta has within his ranks, that simply isn’t good enough.

There has been a soft underbelly at the Emirates Stadium for a while but last night’s comeback victory should give them huge confidence.

The team spirit was there for all to see against Benfica and Arsenal must now kick their season on even further.
