Gilberto Silva has picked his Arsenal Player of the Week on Instagram after the Gunners bravely lost to Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City last time out – choosing academy product Bukayo Saka following his performance.
Saka, 19, burst onto the scene last term, clocking up an impressive 38 appearances in all competitions for the north London side and despite his age – he had a hand in 15 goals for the north London club. It saw him earn a new contract.
The accolades keep coming for the London-born star, who has also shown enormous versatility – playing at left-back, left wing and even in attacking midfield. Saka was awarded his first England cap by Gareth Southgate in the last international break.
Other than Arsenal’s defenders, Saka touched the ball more than his midfield and attacking teammates – showing a fearlessness in wanting the ball. He also had two shots on target, more than any of his teammates (WhoScored).
He has firmly established himself in Mikel Arteta’s high-press, high-tempo style and continues to remain a crucial part of Arteta’s project. This season, Saka has played in six of Arsenal’s eight games – having a hand in two goals.
Silva, an icon among Arsenal supporters for his role under Arsene Wenger in the Invincibles side, posted on Instagram to pick £10k-a-week (Spotrac) Saka as his Player of the Week – something he will now be doing going forward.
