‘Gifting goals away like it’s Christmas:’ some Crystal Palace fans react to defeat against Chelsea

Crystal Palace fell to a 3-1 defeat away at Chelsea on Sunday afternoon, conceding two quick goals after Andros Townsend’s equaliser made it 1-1.

After the match, Palace fans expressed their discontent with the team’s defensive performance, criticising the ease at which the Blues scored their goals.

While Roy Hodgson’s sides are normally known for their defensive solidity, fans have noticed Palace’s inability to properly deal with set pieces this season.

In particular, Alvaro Morata’s second goal came in disappointing circumstances, as the Spanish striker was left unmarked off a set piece, and coolly smashed home from a tight angle. With the scores level at one, Palace would have certainly fancied themselves to hang on for a point, yet poor marking arguably killed the match off.

In addition, some Eagles fans turned their attention to Palace’s upcoming fixtures against Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United. After the loss to Chelsea, there will be little respite for Roy Hodgson’s men with tough fixtures coming thick and fast.

With Crystal Palace currently just three points off the relegation zone, supporters prepared themselves for a difficult month that could leave the side in a battle against the drop if results don’t improve quickly.
