Leeds United manager Daniel Farke has hinted that Whites on-loan ace Djed Spence could be in line for a start at Elland Road on Saturday.
The Leeds boss, speaking to the Yorkshire Evening Post, says the 23-year-old is “getting closer and closer” to returning to action after an injury lay-off.
Farke admitted he was tempted to bring him on in midweek for Leeds in their 3-1 Championship win over Swansea.
However, he said a combination of Archie Gray doing well and a need to substitute Pascal Struijk meant he couldn’t bring Spence on.
Leeds United gem Djed Spence unlucky with injuries
The Tottenham loanee joined Leeds in the summer, but he has just made one nine-minute cameo to date for the Whites.
Spence suffered a ligament injury in September and spent several weeks on the sidelines, only returning to training in the past fortnight.
The full-back made his return to the Leeds matchday squad in the win over the Welsh side in midweek, remaining an unused substitute.
When asked whether he was tempted to bring Spence on, Farke replied: “Yes, Djed, because of his ability and his potential, I was thinking a lot during the last game about him.
“But in the final stages of the game, there was also Pascal Struijk who was out for a little bit and had a few cramps and I was forced also to have a change.
“It was not the day to bring him in but this day could come pretty soon. Each and every day on the training pitch helps him and he is getting closer and closer.”
Spence is an ‘unbelievable‘ player who was outstanding in Nottingham Forest’s promotion season. However, his career has stalled since joining Tottenham, hence the loan move to Leeds.
Sadly, injury has held him back in his loan spell at Elland Road, but hopefully he can now start featuring and hopefully not look back.
