'Get us out of this league': Some Sunderland fans react to club announcement on £250,000 player

Sunderland have announced that Aiden McGeady a new one-year contract with the club.

The Black Cats announced on their official website that the attacker will return to the club for an extra season. McGeady was one of Sunderland’s top performing players last season.

The 35-year-old attacker registered a league-high 16 assists as well as scoring four goals. McGeady also set up Lynden Gooch’s winner in the EFL Trophy last season.

McGeady said on his new deal: “I’m pleased to have signed a new contract at the club and I’m looking forward to the new season.

“I’m happy at Sunderland and since returning to the team under Lee Johnson, I feel that my performances have shown that. We all know what the ambition is for next season and I’ve made no secret of the fact that I want to be part of the team that goes back up.”

Sunderland failed to clinch promotion back to the Championship last season. However, retaining McGeady gives the northeast club a huge chance in pushing for a top spot in League One next campaign.

And on social media, Sunderland fans were buzzing that McGeady had penned a new deal with the club, keeping him at the Stadium of Light for one more year.

McGeady joined Sunderland in 2017 from Everton for a reported fee of £250,000 according to Sky Sports News.
