Steven Gerrard has said that Rangers captain James Tavernier is not a target for struggling Premier League outfit Southampton, as per the Herald.
The Liverpool legend watched his side recover from their midweek setback against Kilmarnock with a comfortable 3-0 win at Livingston yesterday, before giving an update on skipper Tavernier ahead of the final week of the transfer window.
Speaking about potential interest from St Mary’s in Tavernier, Gerrard said: “They’re not [interested]. We made a call on it this morning and they are not.
“There will be talk of Tav and Alfredo, but there hasn’t been a solid bid for any of our players so far. Will one come? Possibly, I’m not sure. There hasn’t been a respectable bid for any of the players where we stand right now.”

Tavernier’s performances may have split opinion so far this season, but it is good news for the club that their captain does not have a lucrative offer sitting on the table going into the closing stages of the window.
Rangers lost Josh Windass on English deadline day during the summer – and although that was not as big a loss as Tavernier would be – so they know how quickly the landscape can change.
But the signs are good, and that should be music to the ears of Rangers’ fans as it stands.
