Report: Gerrard aiming to make two more signings at Aston Villa even after Digne deal is done

Aston Villa look to be giving it a right good go under Steven Gerrard in January and with the signings of Lucas Digne and Philippe Coutinho set to be completed, it doesn’t look like Villa will be slowing down any time soon.

That’s because according to 90Min, Gerrard apparently wants another two new faces at Villa Park. And that is after the deals for Coutinho and Digne are announced. It’s claimed that the former Rangers boss wants another midfielder added, while a striker is also on his list.

Gerrard has had an immediate impact at Villa since coming in from Ibrox. The players have adapted well, albeit the Villans did lose their two fixtures over the festive period.

Coutinho is set to seal a move this week after flying in for a medical this weekend. Digne, meanwhile, is said to have been convinced by Villa’s ambition under Gerrard and he is also set to sign in the coming days from Everton.

Why We Shouldn't Compare Footballers Based On Their Positions

Who Gerrard now wants in those two extra positions, remains to be seen. But it is clear the Villa board backing their new man in the market. Villa are currently 13th in the Premier League, some 11 points off the top six.

TBR’s View: Aston Villa Must Firmly Believe In Steven Gerrard

Most new managers get a few new signings. But with Villa and Gerrard, there seems to be a different feeling about things. The signing of Coutinho is a massive statement, while getting Digne from a direct PL rival is also big.

On the surface of things, it appears that Villa’s board are firm believers in Gerrard. They’ve obviously seen his success at Rangers, and think giving him the right tools could yield similar at Villa Park.

If Villa do add two more quality additions, then don’t bet against them pushing for Europe.
