Steven Gerrard has told Rangers TV that Joe Aribo was his man of the match as Rangers secured yet another win on Wednesday, suggesting that his performance was about as good as anything he has seen at left-back during his time at Ibrox.

With Borna Barisic coming off during the Gers’ recent Old Firm win, Aribo was tasked with replacing the Croatian for their latest clash.

It proved to be another successful night for the Light Blues. The champions beat Livingston 3-0 to move onto 99 points for the campaign.

It was James Tavernier, Ryan Kent and Ianis Hagi who scored for Rangers. But Gerrard suggested that Aribo was his standout performer on another impressive night.

“He’s my man of the match tonight just because, if you think about it, he’s a number 10,” he told Rangers TV.

“And he’s just been so comfortable at left-back, cruised it and breezed it.

“That left-back performance is as good as we’ve seen in my three years of being here.”

Away trips to Livi have tended to be tricky fixtures for Gerrard’s men to negotiate – making Aribo’s performance all the more impressive.

There is no question that the 24-year-old has taken his game to another level this season.

It was his performance that many Rangers fans were raving about when they saw off Celtic at the start of the month.

It is almost frightening to think about how good Aribo could become. He should still be some way away from his peak. And yet, he is stealing the show in a completely different role.
