Steven Gerrard has issued an encouraging assessment of Rangers target Joe Aribo which will surely excite the Light Blues faithful.
It would appear the Gers have won the race for the midfielder, who was being tracked by a host of other clubs including bitter rivals Celtic, and Premier League outfits Brighton, Bournemouth, Southampton and Aston Villa.
He had a medical on Monday and an official announcement is expected very soon.
10 Championship clubs plus Stuttgart, Torino and Rennes were all also monitoring.
Given the sheer amount of interest in him, Rangers fans have every reason to get excited over this signing.
Of Aribo, Gerrard said (quoted by The Scottish Sun): “He’s got a fantastic profile and you will see that for yourselves when you see him with your own eyes.
“He’s very mobile and very dynamic. He can burst past a player and create and score goals. There are still a lot of areas of his game where he can develop, but he gives us something we have not got in midfield. That’s the key.”
Aribo might well be the most exciting addition yet by Rangers this summer.
He is a player who has the ability to drive the team forward.
He has the ability to do the job that many expected Lassana Coulibaly to do after his promising start at Ibrox last year.
The Mali international faded though and his move was dubbed a real disappointment.
With Glen Kamara, Ryan Jack, Steven Davis, Scott Arfield, Ross McCrorie and Matt Polster to pick from, Aribo will need to ensure he works hard to nail down a place in Gerrard’s starting XI.
