Gerrard confirms Balogun, Barisic and Helander set to miss Rangers' clash with Livingston
Steven Gerrard has revealed that Borna Barisic, Leon Balogun, Filip Helander are all out of Wednesday’s trip to face Livingston.
Speaking ahead of the Scottish Premiership clash, the manager claimed that Scott Arfield has returned to training on grass amid a view to playing on Saturday. He went to further to explain that Nikola Katic has returned from Croatia, where he was recovering from a long-term knee injury. Meanwhile, Jack Ryan has had successful surgery on his calf injury.
Rangers are facing injury hell, however, will be looking to maintain their unbeaten run so far this season. The Glasgow outfit are yet to lose in the Scottish top-flight, winning 30 and drawing six of their 36 games.
After what has been a long and grueling campaign, it proves a mighty relief to everyone associated with the club that the league title has already been sewn up.
The injury problems have been mounting up and with three first-team defenders out, Gerrard is facing selection issues ahead of Wednesday’s encounter.
Barisic has enjoyed the lion share of starts at left-back, whilst both Helander and Balogun played a part in the club’s last game against bitter rivals Celtic.
The news leaves the club struggling at center-half with just Connor Goldson and Jack Simpson available, and with the Ibrox Stadium giants not having to worry about fighting for the title, the Livingston fixture will be comfortable than it could’ve been.
With such a miraculous achievement mere weeks away, Gerrard will be looking to continue the side’s momentum in the final two games of the league season. The injury scenario doesn’t help the Liverpudlian as the club chasing footballing history.
