Rangers and Steven Gerrard could soon be looking for a new striker, with Alfredo Morelos on the radar of Lille in a move that would bring in millions to Ibrox.
The Gers have been heavily reliant on their striker in recent seasons. And that form has seen a number of clubs keen to sign Morelos, with reports this week claiming Lille are eyeing a deal for around £17m.

Morelos’ goals will be a big miss for Rangers if they do indeed sell him on. Finding a replacement will be tricky and even though they have Jermain Defoe, the former England man is not quite at the level he once was.
But could the £17m allow Steven Gerrard to potentially make a raid on his former club Liverpool for someone who would no doubt fire in the goals up in Scotland?
That man we are talking about is Belgian striker, Divock Origi, who has been attracting interest of late from Aston Villa.
Wages a problem but with £17m in the coffers could a loan move work?
Origi is never ever going to be the starting number nine at Anfield. It’s shown ever since he joined the club and although he has scored some big goals, he’s never been a regular starter.
Therefore, he could relish the chance at having at least one season as the main man somewhere. And where better to be the main man than at a giant of the game like Rangers, managed by a Liverpool legend in Gerrard.

The biggest issue with any deal would be Origi’s wages. The striker is on a reported £45k-a-week at Anfield, meaning he’d comfortably be one of, if not the, top earner at Ibrox. Even Defoe is on less, with the striker taking a big drop to stay in Glasgow this year.
However, Origi could be worth it. That weekly wage is around £2.5m over the season. And for someone who knows where the net is and can handle high-pressure moments, it could be a steal.
So, with Origi needing games to get in the Belgium squad and Gerrard potentially needing a new forward, this is a deal that could well be worth exploring for the Gers.
