Former Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier has told Talk Sport (Jim White and Natalie Sawyer Show, 02/03; 11:12am) that he has been particularly impressed with two of Jurgen Klopp’s signings.
The French boss was in charge of Liverpool for six years between 1998 and 2004 and claims his delight at seeing two of the club’s signings thrive.
Houllier believes that Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker have impressed him the most out of all the arrivals during Klopp’s tenure.

Van Dijk arrived from Southampton, with Alisson signing from Roma prior to last season.
The ex-boss believes they have been perfect additions for the Reds.
He told Talk Sport (02/03; 11:12am): “For me, I am impressed and pleased with two signings in particular.
“Virgil van Dijk and Alisson have been absolutely pivotal and proved exactly what they needed to be successful.”
Houllier is a man accustomed to success during his managerial career and claimed several trophies at Anfield.
During the 2000/01 campaign he led Liverpool to three titles; the FA Cup, League Cup and UEFA Cup. The Reds also won the Charity Shield and a UEFA Super Cup during his tenure as boss.

Despite Saturday’s 3-0 defeat to Watford, Liverpool remain on course for their first-ever Premier League title.
They are 22 points clear at the top of the league, although Manchester City do hold a game in hand on Klopp’s team.
Van Dijk and Alisson have been quality signings and although Liverpool paid good money for them, they have proved the catalyst for a dominant period for the club.
