Georginio Wijnaldum has made colossal improvements at Liverpool

Liverpool cruised to a 4-0 win over Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League group stages on Wednesday night and midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum was once again at the heart of the success.

The 27-year-old is the glue in the Reds XI that has arguably been their most consistent performer so far this season and keeps the ball ticking over.

He moved to Anfield back in 2016 for £25million (BBC) from Newcastle United and arrived as a goalscoring midfielder.

The Holland international has a mixed start to life with the Merseyside club and was guilty of going missing during matches for large periods.

But Wijnaldum has shown huge improvements to his game over the last year and now seems an indispensable cog for Liverpool, despite all the competition in the midfield area.

Wijnaldum has been transformed into an all-action central midfielder that covers every blade of grass with his energy and does his defensive work brilliantly.

The Dutchman is extremely neat and tidy when on the ball, which helps Liverpool dominate possession in the centre of the park.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp clearly values him very highly and it would be no surprise to see Wijnaldum included in a starting XI if they had a cup final in their next match.
