George Boateng hails Aston Villa star Ezri Konsa on Instagram

George Boateng was amongst those to laud Ezri Konsa on Instagram after Aston Villa rounded off their season with a hugely impressive victory on Sunday.

Dean Smith’s men ended what has been an extremely promising campaign on a high. Their 2-1 win over Chelsea provided a fitting ending to what threatened to be an incredibly special year for the club.

Unfortunately, a tough run of form earlier this year saw them fall away from contention for the European spots.

Nevertheless, a number of players can still be incredibly proud of what they achieved this term. And one of those who really stepped up was Konsa.

The 23-year-old was, once again, deployed in the right-back role against the Blues. And he went on to produce the kind of display that will leave Smith wondering if the centre-back can provide more cover to Matty Cash from now on.

It has been an outstanding campaign for Konsa. It is easy to forget now that he began life in the Premier League with Villa as an understudy.

He has cemented his place as a stalwart of Smith’s side this season. And in truth, it would be difficult to criticise Gareth Southgate if he decides to acknowledge Konsa’s form when he names his England squad for the European Championships.
