West Ham United broke into the top four of the Premier League with a 3-2 away win over Crystal Palace on Tuesday night – and both James Collins and Sir Geoff Hurst have reacted on social media, with David Moyes side sitting pretty.
It did not go all West Ham’s way. Wilf Zaha got things rolling with a brilliant strike from 20 yards out into the bottom corner, only for two quick-fire goals from Tomas Soucek to pull West Ham back into the lead and cancelling out Zaha’s opener.
Craig Dawson made it 3-1 to the Hammers and despite a late goal from Michy Batshuayi – the Hammers made it six straight wins in all competitions and jumped into the top four. Fans are dreaming of European football come the end of the season.
Both Hurst and Collins reacted on social media to the Hammers sitting pretty at the top end of the table, as Moyes continues to get plaudits for the work he is doing – despite being heavily criticised in the past.
TBR’s view – What do West Ham need to maintain position?
Realistically, the Hammers are not going to finish in the top four. Eventually, they will go on a run without a win for a few games – but their chances of qualifying for Europa League football are certainly improving. What do they need to achieve that?
Well, five days remain in the window. Without a doubt, they need a back-up striker. Michail Antonio is hardly a stranger to injury and he needs first-class cover – while another midfielder would not go amiss. Moyes deserves backing, but will the board give him that?
