A number of Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to praise Kieran Tierney’s performance in last night’s heroic Europa League last-32 victory.

The Gunners ran out 3-2 winners over Benfica in a dramatic game which saw Mikel Arteta’s side on the brink of elimination, only to pull off a great European comeback.

With the tie evenly poised at 1-1 following the “away” leg in Rome last week, Arsenal contested their “home” leg in Athens.

Things started well enough for the Gunners as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang gave his side the lead in the 21st minute.

However, Diogo Goncalves equalised with a free kick on the stroke of half time, a superb effort into the top corner of Bernd Leno’s goal.

Then, a poor defensive header Dani Ceballos just after the hour put Rafa Silva through on goal, the 27-year-old duly beating Leno and slotting into the open net.

With Arsenal needing to score twice to progress into the next round, Tierney got the ball rolling with a fierce effort from inside the box.

And the comeback was sealed with three minutes remaining when Aubameyang peeled away to the back post to head home Bukayo Saka’s cross.

The Gunners won 3-2 on the night and 4-3 on aggregate to go into Friday’s draw for the last 16.

Several Arsenal players were lauded on social media, one of which was Tierney, his passion and perseverance giving the Gunners hope when all looked lost.
