Joe Gelhardt probably summed up how a number of Leeds United fans feel about Sam Greenwood as the forward commented on his teammate’s Instagram post following his latest under-23 goal.

Mark Jackson’s side secured the title on Friday as they beat Aston Villa 2-1. And once again, Greenwood marked the occasion with a superb free-kick.

The former Arsenal starlet had already established himself as a set-piece specialist this season.

He scored superb free-kicks against the likes of Sunderland and West Brom earlier in the campaign. He also netted a sublime effort in a recent game against York City.

And he was at it again last week. He managed to curl a free-kick into the back of the net from around 25 yards out.

He has now scored nine goals in Premier League 2 this season. And it was little surprise to see a number of his current and former teammates laud him on social media following the win.

The likes of Gelhardt and Crysencio Summerville were amongst to reply to his post on Instagram…

Greenwood’s frightening ability from free-kicks will only strengthen his case for further opportunities within the first-team.

Raphinha has tended to be Leeds’s first-choice set-piece taker in recent months. There have been flashes of brilliance from the winger. But there have also been times when he has struggled to produce as much quality in those moments.

Marcelo Bielsa is unlikely to pick Greenwood just because he can take a free-kick. But he is an outstanding talent.

And with Leeds safe for another year, perhaps it should come as no surprise if he gets the chance to add to his one senior appearance before the campaign concludes.
