Gary Neville wowed by 'fantastic' Wilfried Gnonto in Aston Villa v Leeds
Leeds United might have lost to Aston Villa last night but Sky Sports’ Gary Neville was wowed by the performance of Wilfried Gnonto.
Gnonto has grown into the season at Leeds since signing in the summer. The youngster was initially signed as one to develop but he’s already looking like the finished article. Of course, there are areas to improve. But the signs are hugely promising with Gnonto.
And speaking about Gnonto on Sky last night, Neville was full of praise for the Leedd winger.
“He is absolutely fantastic. It is the first time I’ve seen him live, and knowing what a good left winger is, his movement to get on the ball and his body shape to receive the ball is absolutely fantastic,” Neville said.
“He is tenacious as well. That is what you want from your players. He is saying ‘come on, Ashley Young is booting the hell out of me’. Ashley Young will, that’s what I’d do against a 19-year-old who looks as good as he looks.
“His movement has been really good. I could watch him all day long. He knows the game already at 19. He knows the position he’s playing in. He’s hanging right on the line of offside and making it difficult for Young and making those double movements.”
TBR’s View: Neville couldn’t get enough of Gnonto for Leeds
The comments in here are just a snippet of the praise Neville had for Wilfried Gnonto last night. Neville was loving his performance, and consistently pointed out the good things he kept doing.
For Leeds, it looks like they’ve found a true gem in the form of Gnonto. He very much looks like a seasoned Premier League player already and will only improve.
In terms of difference makers for Jesse Marsch, Gnonto could prove to be just that this season.
